One western club’s attack is about to lighter. Next January Real Salt Lake striker Yura Movsisyan is leaving Major League Soccer for Denmark according to Goal.com. Movsisyan has signed for Danish side Randers FC.

Movsisyan’s current MLS contract with RSL will be up after the 2009 season.

This loss will be a big one though I’ve said a few times this season that I haven’t felt good enough about Movsisyan as a go-to striker for RSL. He’s a big, strong guy that will probably do well in a league like Denmark. At least he is getting to test the waters before it is too late on his career.

What RSL will do to make up for his departure is unknown at this time. I honestly believe right now that if they even want to think about reaching the playoffs for a second straight season, they need to get a big time scorer on their roster. Right now with Movsisyan and Robbie Findley their attack just lacks a punch of some sort. Mainly Findley is too hot and cold at times and Movsisyan hasn’t proven he is a guy that can finish a lot of clean up around net.

What do you think of the move? Happy for Movsisyan? What will RSL do to make up for the loss?

We talked about this potential deal yesterday and today it comes a reality. FC Dallas has announced the signing of Colombian international David Ferreira. He becomes the third player loaned to FCD from Brazilian partner Clube Atletico Paranaense.

We’re very excited to be able to add a player of Ferreira’s ability and experience,” said FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock. “If you look at the majority of teams who have won the MLS Cup, they’ve had a true number 10; an attacking midfielder who can be a real game-changer. In David Ferreira, we have a player who has played at the highest level with the Colombian national team, been one of the top players for Atletico Paranaense in the Brazilian first division, and now we look forward to bringing him to FC Dallas, where we think he’ll be able to help take this team to the next level and contend for a championship.”

Ferreira is the experienced #10 in them middle that Dallas has been looking for all winter. He brings plenty of solid experience to the talk and some down here are saying he could potentially be a Christian Gomez type of playmaker for Dallas.

The 29-year-old joined CAP in 2005, where he has started 175 games, scoring 38 goals and adding 42 assists. Some pretty solid numbers in any league.

Ferreira is a member of the Colombian national team, having most recently represented them in a World Cup Qualifier versus Paraguay last October. He was also a part of the Colombia team that won the CONMEBOL Copa America in 2001.

While I am still a bit new on Ferreria I think the deal is a good one for both sides. Dallas gets a solid playmaker to set up Kenny Cooper and Jeff Cunningham. Plus Ferreria should sit well in Schellas Hyndman’s midfield.

Does this possibly put Dallas over the top and back in the playoff picture? That remains to be seen at this point. I still think they have some work to do defensively but this certainly should help.

Hirsig is an eight-year veteran of the Argentine first division, most recently with San Lorenzo.

“I am very excited to join the Kansas City Wizards,” Hirsig said. “I have followed MLS a lot in the past year, and I cannot wait to be part of the team and hopefully help the Wizards win MLS Cup in 2009.”

Yeah, to be real honest here, I have never heard of this guy. Normally I would be able to give a decent estimate of what to expect but since I know little of this guy all I can say is I am hoping for the best out of this signing.

Kansas City also now enters the race with DC for the most Argentine players in MLS.

“It is rare to be able to acquire a U.S. international in the prime of his career,” said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. “When he became available we jumped at the opportunity to add him to our team. He is a great attacking player who will make an immediate impact, and our fans will enjoy watching him.”

Most of you know my feelings on the deal. Its a good move for the Quakes, who have really had a solid offseason in my opinion. They kept a core of their strong defense and improved most of the areas that needed work on.

Woah nelly. That is definitely a lot for an aging winger.

To be honest I don’t blame the boys in LA one bit for raising the price from 10 to 22 here. More than likely they will meet somewhere inbetween when it is all said and done. My bet is it ends up getting done for somewhere in the neighborhood of $16 or 17 million. Just a hunch.

What do you all think the price will be to get Beckham sold? Is the $22 million tag too much or still too little for GoldenBalls?

Reading FC announced on Friday that Convey has left the club by mutual consent, thus opening the door for Convey to make the reported move to the San Jose Earthquakes that has been talked about over the last several weeks.

The 25-year-old midfielder is now set to return to MLS almost five years after leaving D.C. United. Most expect him to serve as a playmaker in the midfield for San Jose.

This move along with a couple others this winter by San Jose have really opened my eyes to this club. I think should all the pieces fall in place for them offensively they will be a very good team this year. We will see though, they still have some work to do but I would argue that they have had one of the better winters compaired to other clubs in the league. (More on that later)

A couple moves to discuss this afternoon, forgive me if I am a little late on them both.

Anyways, two moves to talk about today.

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed American striker Cam Weaver, who joins the Earthquakes on a transfer from Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

Weaver enjoyed a strong season in Norway this past year, notching nine goals in 25 league matches.

Some Seattle fans will recall just how good Weaver was for them. He first made a huge splash in the USL after scoring 18 goals as a rookie with the Seattle Sounders in 2006. The strong season earned him USL rookie of the year honors and led to Weaver being sold to Haugesund.

Weaver should be the striker San Jose has been looking for too. Best of all the Quakes didn’t have to sign him through the allocation system (currently the Quakes are number one in that order). Weaver never played in MLS and has never been called into the US National team, therefore he would not qualify as a player to be allocated.

I remember bits and pieces of Weaver’s rookie year in Seattle. He’s a big kid (6-foot-4) and definitely a hand full. In other news, Toronto FC has traded defender Todd Dunivant to the Los Angeles Galaxy for allocation money. A move I like for LA but question for TFC at the momment.

Apparently the move on TFC’s part is more about gaining some allocation and clearing some roster space to sign a better free agent defender (or striker). If they sign someone before the season to fill the gaps that they have in defense then this move will be justified. If they don’t I just see this as a bit of a waste.

For LA I love it, it gives them another defender that knows how to actually play in MLS. Bruce Arena continues to shape this roster in a way that will make the Galaxy competitive this season and more importantly give the club a chance at reaching the playoffs for the first time in a couple seasons.

Earlier this month we talked about San Jose’s interest in the midfielder. SBI is reporting this evening the Galaxy are also interested to try to bring the injury prone midfielder to the Home Depot Center.

LA is looking at the growing possibility that both Landon Donvan and David Beckham could be headed back to Europe this winter, making this move all the more needed.

What is standing in the way is San Jose’s current position in the allocation order. The Quakes are number one while LA sits in second place in the order. Do the Quakes really want Convey or are they more interested to get a deal worked out with the Galaxy here? Reports suggest the Quakes are set to sign an international forward in the coming weeks.

Getting some extra allocation money from LA might be enough to make the deal happen. Not to mention the Quakes would only have to move one spot down only to move back up to the top if LA does indeed claim Convey in the allocation process.

I still think like some people out there that Convey will return next year to MLS and sign with the expansion side in Philly. Its a move that makes sense for both parties but a move to the league a year early could be fine too. Philly may want to make a trade or Convey could work a deal in his contract if he really wants to play there (similar to what Nate Jaqua did in Houston to get to Seattle).

Think Convey will be in MLS this year or will he come back in 2010?

<img class="size-full wp-image-2827" title="gallardo" src="http://wvhooligan.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/gallardo.jpg" alt="Could Marcello Gallardo be on his way out?
Most of this winter I have been wonder what exactly DC United would do with their roster for the upcoming season. I figured they’d re-sign a few key guys, let some wasted talent go and possible try to sign a heavy contract.

But the more you look at their roster the more you wonder about a couple parties. Even more so you begin to really wonder things after you read thoughts like this from Steve Goff, someone who is around the club way more than I am.

If he is pondering out loud the same things I’ve been thinking for a while it really gets me thinking more here.

Basically what Goff goes into is what United is going to do about Designated player Marcello Gallardo.

Gallardo was the big signing last year for the Black-and-Red as we all remember. Thing was he never lived up to the DP hype that some had expected. Now the club is looking to dump some salary (mainly that big cap hit of $400k), save a few bucks and try and free up a DP spot (I think they may have a big signing in line for this summer).

We also know that Gallardo is attracting interest from Argentine club Estudiantes. Gallardo has been in and out of the country so far this winter, most recently leaving to head home for “personal reasons”.

The next thing Goff wonders out loud is what Colorado is going to do with former United playmaker Christian Gomez. I’ve gone into talks about this before, on a couple occactions. Could United really be able to get rid of Gallardo and bring back the man who was shipped off to get Gallardo?

Anything is possible here and you can easily put two and two together.

I’ve kind of had a feeling DC was trying to figure out if it would be wise to try and bring back the man that played a big part in their back-to-back Supporter’s Shield trophies. Thing is this time around they probably would get him from Colorado at a discount to their salary cap (no way anyone gets Gomez without Colorado not paying a portion of Gomez’s contract this year).

So think about it. Ponder it over like I have. Gallardo heads home and frees up some mega space on the cap for DC; Gomez gets traded back at a discount; and DC probably would then use that extra DP tag later on.

Will this actually happen? Goff has a hunch about it and so do I.
