Believe it or not but we are nearly two-thirds the way through this season. Right now we have some movers and shakers to discuss after another interesting week of play in Major League Soccer. Some clubs are wheelin’ and dealin’ with big payoffs, while others are standing put and doing nothing…and seeing nothing in the process.

1. New England Revolution (33 pts., same) – Big week, SuperLiga final tonight, and Chicago at home on Saturday. Yeah the same Chicago Fire club that has thrashed them for seven goals this season. Wonder which game the Revs are more focused on this week? Both are big. Continue Reading…

Hear that sound? Its the sound of a cash register running again and again as Kenny Cooper scores. Another weekend and another brace from Cooper, this time on the road in arguable the toughest venue in MLS BMO Field.

A pair of late second-half goals from Kenny Cooper led FC Dallas to a 2-0 win. Cooper is now tied atop the Budweiser Golden Boot standings with Landon Donovan with 13 goals on the year. A couple weeks ago Cooper was only on pace to net about 15 goals this season, now it seems like he could get 20 or even 25 at the current tear that he is on.

There was really no doubt this weekend who was the best player and who had the best game. There were a couple others out there that had a solid weekend but none as good as Cooper’s two goals.

Now if Dallas can just hold on to him for another two weeks they could be looking at a playoff birth with Cooper.

Anyways, week 19 ended similar to week 18 with Cooper on top as the league’s Player of the Week. Continue Reading…

Week 19 is in the books for Major League Soccer and the playoff races are as hot as the sun down here in Dallas (yeah, it reached 108 this weekend here). Four out of the five games went to the home teams while one of the toughest venues in the league gave it’s visitor a rare victory.

Five solid games though, with some surprising results to some. I think one thing is clear though, someone may be getting the boot out in LA this week (more on that in a bit). Also, some big changes need to happen up in Toronto.

Yeah, some clubs are rising while others are falling faster than anyone would have thought a couple months ago. Why is that? Simple, its called parity and this league is filled with it.

We are slowly getting back to that normal schedule we are use to seeing on the weekends. A few MLS games here and there and honestly I love how this weekend is shaping up to be. Five games spread out through two days with three tomorrow and two on Sunday. Perfect if you ask me, though I’m sure those start times will get some people upset (another noon kickoff in San Jose?!).

All five matches have a bit of importance to them as some contenders will go head to head. Clubs will be looking to inch up the standings a bit. The biggest question may be, can Columbus win in Houston to surpass New England atop the standings? That’s one of the few questions that will come out of this weekend.
