This is a quick tease of a piece. I’ll be fairly busy today with real job stuff until this afternoon (most likely). I did want to put up a quick post about this video for Real Salt Lake though. I love the marketing behind it by the league and RSL. I hope to get more into this later today before their big match tonight in Monterrey.

Timbers Army Sings National Anthem

There is nothing cooler than this in my opinion. Seeing/hearing a large supporters group like the Timbers Army sing the national anthem on national TV was special to see not only for the club itself but for the league. It shows the league is continuing to grow at paces we couldn’t have imagined a few years ago.

It truly was a special night last night in Portland. The sold-out crowd at JELD-WEN Field put on a very nice show for the rest of the league. I think it is safe to say there will be plenty of debates today about whether or not the Timbers fans are better or on par with the other top groups in the league like the Seattle Sounders fans, the D.C. United fans and so on.

Rocky Mountain Cup Gets Hyped Up

Gotta love the hype machine for this one. Real Salt Lake is pumping out videos like the one below for tomorrow’s first installment of this year’s edition of the Rocky Mountain Cup. It is being dubbed champion vs. champion, as the Colorado Rapids and RSL are Major League Soccer’s last two MLS Cup winners.

The rivalry factor is huge for this one and you’ll expect a quality game too tomorrow night. I know Colorado just got thumped by FC Dallas this past weekend but they should be a bit more fit for this one as they should get Pablo Mastroeni back for it.

Beckham Pepsi Beach Video

You be the judge of this Pepsi video with LA Galaxy star David Beckham in it. By all accounts its as fake as a six-dollar bill. I just doubt Beckham kicked three balls into three trashcans this way on the beach. Now this video just got released on Youtube and I’d imagine within the next day or so it will be all over the interwebs.

I’m curious to see if this will get dressed up any for a TV spot too.

New Timbers Ad

Kudos for Portland for ramping up their MLS production here. The folks there certainly know how to make an interesting ad for their club. Maybe they can teach a few clubs around the league a thing or two about quality advertising when they enter the league next year.

Boy things like this make me happy to see Nike as the jersey maker for the US. They know exactly how to put together a nice campaign for the US team and for the World Cup.

The Game Is In Us

It’s a big week in US Soccer, the World Cup preliminary roster was announced and the bid book was submitted to FIFA for the US to host either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup. The US bid committee put out a nice campaign video today hyping reasons why the US should get the World Cup again.

The video features US players, a few MLS stars (mostly Seattle), and some random folks who love the game.
