While Real Salt Lake may have their doctor, Chivas USA now has a nurse, 24-year-old forward Roberto Nurse (I know, I know, it probably isn’t pronounced that way but go with it alright?!). He is a three-year veteran of the first division in Mexico, most recently with Querétaro.

From 2007-2008, he was Querétaro’s leading goalscorer in the Primera ‘A’, registering a total of 17 goals between the Apertura 2007 and Clausura 2008 seasons.

Nurse, who has been training with the Red-and-White since early June, is eligible to play for Chivas pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. Chivas faces Santos Laguna of the Mexican First Division tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center, in a Group B match of the SuperLiga 2008 tournament.

His new coach seems excited about the young player joining the team:

“Roberto is a strong, powerful center forward who we’ve been taking a close look at for the past few weeks,” said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. “He’s good in the air, good with his feet, and will add another dimension to our attack. We’re happy to have him in the squad.”

Of course all coaches say stuff like that at first right? Either way it sounds like a nice deal for Chivas. He will take up one of their international player spots on their roster. If he can be half as productive as he was in Mexico this could end up being a steal for Chivas. With the on-going injuries to Maykel Galindo, Nurse could be just what Chivas needs offensively in terms of depth to finish out the year.

The amount of his contract and terms were not release. I honestly wouldn’t expect him to be paid too much right now either. Probably no more than $60,000. But then again some young internationals in MLS get paid pretty well so we will see.

Chivas fans, what do you make of your new forward?
