Galaxy Sign Three Brazilians On Loan

According to the LA Galaxy, Christmas has come a couple days early. The club has announced the signing of three young stars from Brazil. Alex, a 21-year-old left-sided player, Juninho, a 20-year-old central midfielder and Leonardo, a 21-year-old central defender all join the western conference champs on loan from Sao Paulo FC.

All three players will be officially added to the Galaxy roster upon the receipt of their P1 visas and International Transfer Clearances (ITC).

Sao Paulo is famous for their youth academy which is rated as one of the world’s best, having produced players such as current and former Brazilian internationals Adriano, Cafu, Denilson, Julio Baptista and Kaka.

I’ve heard several times that these three are very talent prospects for Bruce Arena. One of the three, Alex, has experience with the U-20 National team for Brazil.

These kind of additions should help LA out in the coming year as they will have a packed schedule with CONCACAF Champions League games and US Open Cup games.

Beckham Scores Again For Milan

The more the man scores for AC Milan the more people on this side of the world wonder.

Milan Wanting To Keep Beckham

If your MLS and LA, what do you do when Beckham wants to go? (Getty Images)

If your MLS and LA, what do you do when Beckham wants to go? (Getty Images)

Something most of us kind of figured would happen with David Beckham and his loan deal with AC Milan. The Italian powerhouse is moving toward making an offer to MLS to keep the English star.

Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

Milan is set to meet with Beckham’s people about buying his rights from MLS and reports suggest a £4.5 million transfer offer is already being floated around as an offer.

The biggest question is would the league, who desperately wanted Beckham to come here allow him to go that easily? With the current economic state I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go that easily if Milan can pony up enough dough to make the league think long and hard about it.

Apparently in Beckham’s contract he has an escape clause that would let him leave after the 2009 season.

Does MLS hold on to Beckham (even though he and his family probably want to leave LA for Italy…who could blame them too), or does it consider the more than $11 million in transfer fee and salary ($5 million) the club would add to its bottom line?

Its a lot to take in. If he clearly wants to stay in Milan I say let him go. Sure he has raised the profile of the league some here but I would argue he hasn’t done enough to draw in the average sports fan on a regular basis. It may be time to cut some losses (or just gain plenty back in transfer fees) and move forward. Its not like LA is going to win a MLS title here anytime soon with him anyways.

What do you all make of this current situation? I’m sure losing both Beckham and Landon Donovan will hur the Galaxy but it will also free up a big chunk of space that I know Bruce Arena could fill with quality players.

Beckham Scoring With Milan

First Landon Donovan playing well in Germany, now David Beckham seems to be playing just as well in Italy with AC Milan.

Beckham scored a goal this weekend with the Italian side. Could he too be looking to stay longer than March like some reports are suggesting? Maybe, maybe not.

“I can’t say what will happen,” Beckham said after Milan’s 4-1 win vs. Bologna. “Even if my contract says that I’ll be here until March. We’ll have to see.

“At the moment I’m enjoying this experience. I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world. And having won gives us confidence to continue.”

Donovan Doing Well With Bayern

What can I say, I am a bit gitty about this news. For one I am a long-time Bayern Munich fan and secondly I want to see Landon Donovan do well outside of the US. So for me this kind of news is a win-win.

The U.S. national team star came off the bench and scored a goal in Bayern’s 2-0 win vs. Kaiserslautern on Monday. His goal was a typical thing of beauty out of Donovan.

Seeing him do well in German this time around makes many wonder exactly how long this stay will really be. Right now he is on loan until March but with a couple quality performances under his belt with the German club many believe this stay will be much longer than March.

I happen to agree with it. Plus I honestly think it is time for Donovan to try his hand at Europe one last time for good anyways. Plus the league will certainly cash in on the move if it happens. A huge transfer sum will come to the league and I see the Galaxy only getting better for it in return. Sure they lose their best scorer but they will open up some serious cap space in the process.

What do you think of Donovan’s successful run with Bayern? Do you see Bayern making a major bid for Donovan before his loan expires? Think it’s time for Donovan to stay in Europe?

Beckham Will Return In Time For 2009 Season

David Beckham says he will only be with AC Milan for a temporary loan. On his website today he confirmed that he is in talks for a loan with the Italian giants but will be back in time to start the 2009 season with the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.

“Although nothing is confirmed at present, we can confirm that talks are taking place with Milan with regard to a short-term loan move at the start of next year,” he said in a a brief statement on davidbeckham.com.

In some ways that should put to rest Beckham staying longer than a loan with the club. My bet is he will do what he did last winter with Arsenal and just train to stay in top shape so he can be available for England friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. More than likely the short loan will not mean he will see any playing time but then again it just may if Milan is wanting to drive up some jersey sales.

Sure we don’t really know what to make of this but I still stand firm with my belief that he will not leave MLS and the LA Galaxy until his contract ends in a couple years, at which that time he will more than likely retire from the game.

But that is just my opinion, what do you all think of this madness?

Arena Talks About Loaning Beckham

By now most of you have heard the news, MLS is exploring the idea of actually loaning out its biggest star for a few months this winter. MLS Commissioner Don Garber has confirmed that MLS is in talks with AC Milan about a potential short-term loan move for LA Galaxy star David Beckham.

I’ve already given you my thoughts on the subject but what about GoldenBalls’ current manager, Bruce Arena. What I always love about Bruce is his ability to just say it like it is. But it almost makes me wonder really what kind of power he has with the Galaxy if he doesn’t agree with this move as the GM.
