That was fairly quick. KC Wizards president Robb Heineman just said via Twitter that a deal couldn’t get done with Luis Gil and that he will be going to KC shortly.

unable to speak with gil…doind a deal with real salt lake

part of transfer fee, 2nd, and intl slot

We knew yesterday that an international roster slot was part of the deal. From the sounds of things probably some allocation money as well to help pave the way for a couple international players that the Wizards are reportedly looking to sign here. The Wizards also want a portion of any transfer fee that Gil gets if/when he leaves MLS to go to Europe (smart move on their part).

Give some credit to KC here folks, they’re really looking to get back in the thick of things in the east here. As for as Gil to RSL goes I do like this move, Jason Kreis will be a good coach for Gil here though I was hoping to see him in Seattle with Sigi Schmid.

Once things become more official I’ll let you all know.

Update: Here’s the official release from the league.

Yes the Kansas City Wizards have won the Luis Gil lottery today. They had the third best shot of winning behind New York and San Jose but according to Steve Goff they plan on shipping the talented midfielder out to a west coast team (Gil is from LA).

So which west coast team will end up with Gil? The one who gives up the most of course. KC is interested in an international slot for starters, according to Down the Byline the Wizards are after either a midfielder or a defender (article mentions midfielder but this Tweet talks defense).

I’d imagine some allocation would be apart of the mix here if not maybe a future draft pick. Or both, someone could be desperate to get Gil here for all we know.

So what are the odds? Its a four team race as I am concerned with LA and Seattle having the bet shot at trading for Gil. Most fans want to see him go to either place as both Bruce Arena and Sigi Schmid are great with young players. But don’t sleep on Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake here either.

Once we hear who deals for Gil I’ll have an update here.

Update: Looks as though KC is hoping to hold on to him a little bit longer here. The Wizards want to see if Gil is interested in coming to KC (yeah right) before they take offers from Seattle, RSL and probably the two LA teams. Honestly it sounds like none of the clubs offered the right deal to KC for Gil here, maybe a day or two of dealing will get it sorted out.

The trade mill is still going today with DC and Kansas City as the trade partners. The Wizards have sent forward Adam Cristman to DC in exchange for an international roster spots.

“We are pleased to have concluded a trade for Adam,” said United General Manager Dave Kasper. “He is a hard working, athletic striker who will provide solid cover for us. We look forward to having him join us in pre-season camp.”

Injuries kept Cristman from seeing the field last year in Kansas City. He only played five games for the Wizards.

Getting an international roster spot for the Wizards mean they are obviously still searching for some answers to fix their roster. Cristman wasn’t a solid enough solution for them at forward but I actually like him in a Black-and-Red kit here. As long as he is healthy he should be a decent player off the bench for Curt Onalfo, who brought him to Kansas City a year ago from New England.

Some FC Dallas news for you this afternoon. It looks like new head coach Schellas Hyndman will be bringing on a couple international players in the coming weeks after his two trades today with Kansas City and Columbus.

Today the Hoops traded for two international spots by trading their natural 4th Round SuperDraft pick in 2009 to Kansas City in exchange for one spot, and then sending their natural 1st round Pick in the 2009 Supplemental Draft to Columbus for another international slot.

Buzz Carrick at 3rdDegree.net has been reporting all week that the club is looking to bring in a striker and another player (probably a flank or wing player, or a defender).

Today FCD’s blog talks about assistant coach John Ellinger trip to South America to visit River Plate and Atltico Paranaense. Dallas is hoping to set up a partnership with River Plate and could possible see a player move from there in a loan deal similar to those done with their other partner club CAP.

Carrick also mentions that Hyndman made room for two new players by moving both Michael Dello-Russo and Andrew Daniels back down to the two open developmental spot. It looks like Dallas has the cap space to sign a high-priced player if needed. I wouldn’t be shocked if they look for a young player to try to make an impact on defense but be risky (again) in signing a striker.

Not surprising to see KC and Columbus be the clubs to trade international spots either. Neither have historically been big on international signings. They each have a couple but nothing near as close as clubs like Dallas or DC.

Solid moves really by Dallas as Hyndman is set to make some moves here. I thought I would see him trade some current players to make room for some new signings but that remains to be seen at this point. That may come later on once they bring in two international players.

They are trying but you can tell this is only the beginning of a full make-over of this club here.
