Rapids, Smith Part Ways

You could see the writing on the wall with this for several weeks. Gary Smith was not happy and neither were the folks above him with the Colorado Rapids. Today, they made it official as the club announced they would be parting ways with the only head coach in their club history to guide them…[continue reading]

Without going into a lot of details, there's a lot of water gone under the bridge now with our decisions that have been made, choices that have come about, working environment and personalities. And listen, I wouldn't say it was totally Paul's fault that we don't get on. There has to be two sides to that story. The reality is that when people don't work together well, you tend to miss out on certain things. Things fall through cracks.
~ Gary Smith, Colorado Rapids head coach

At one point this season I thought about having Gary Smith on my coaching hot seat list but a midseason turnaround kind of killed that thought for me. Turns out, we could be close to him leaving Colorado anyways. He and TD Paul Bravo are apparently not on the same page these days. In a…[continue reading]

"Everyone has to make their own decisions as they relate to those things. For me, if my team's in a competition I'm going to go to the game with them, no matter what the team is that I send down. ... For me, not traveling with the team I think would be disrespectful to the competition that you're competing in and to the opponent that you're playing."
~ Sigi Schmid, Seattle Sounders FC head coach

Saw this quote from Sigi Schmid in regards to Colorado Rapids manager Gary Smith staying at home this past week for the Rapids CCL trip to Honduras. Can’t say I disagree with this either. Even though the Rapids won their game, the head coach should have made the trip. It will be interesting to see…[continue reading]

2010 MLS Cup Preview: Rapids v. FC Dallas

It is finally here, the game we’ve all been waiting for since March. The 2010 MLS Cup is here and honestly I couldn’t be any more excited for this one (yes having my local side being in it helps). Having two clubs in this game that have yet to win a MLS Cup is pretty…[continue reading]

2010 MLS Preview: Bold Predictions

2010 MLS Preview: Bold Predictions

I’d normally like to get these predictions out much sooner but with all that has gone on this winter the day before First Kick seems about right really. The rosters became compliant at 5pm ET yesterday and thus will put an end to the preseason in a way for all the clubs. In the past…[continue reading]

Season Recap: Colorado Rapids

Season Recap: Colorado Rapids

Consistent play was always an issue in 2008 for the Colorado Rapids, and it turned out 2009 wasn’t much different. The Rapids looked like a team that could contend in early on in 2009 but the ladder part of the season tore this group apart as injuries were racked up and the offensive production that…[continue reading]

Rapids Eye Summer Changes

Rapids Eye Summer Changes

One western side isn’t taking a backseat this summer. The Colorado Rapids are actively perusing a couple players in hopes to bring on to help their lack of depth going into the second half of the season. Currently the Rapids sit forth in the west and 8th overall, which would be good enough for a…[continue reading]

Gary Smith Slams Open Cup

Colorado Rapids manager Gary Smith does not like the US Open Cup. At all. The Colorado Rapids head coach lashed out on the sad state of the U.S. Open Cup after his side’s 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday. His hits on the USOC included the venue of last nights game down to…[continue reading]

Colorado Rapids Season Preview

Last of the season previews for this week (we will return Monday with more). Today we turn our attention out west to the Colorado Rapids. Last year the Rapids failed to reach the playoffs and were considered as one of the most inconsistent clubs in the league in 2008. Can they get over the hump…[continue reading]
