Teams drafted yesterday as we all know. Some did much better than others. While we expect to see some draft picks traded away and clubs move above the other in order to snap the guy they wanted most early in the draft, it ended up not being the case.
Both Toronto and Seattle dangled their picks but at the end of the day, both walked away with top picks and looked really smart for it in the long run.
Really only one club moved up in the draft and that wasn’t even until the second round when Chicago did it. And honestly it may turn out to be the smartest move of the draft when it is all said and done.
How do I think each team faired? Here are my grades below. I tried to be reasonable for each club because let’s be real honest here, no one, not me nor any other soccer pundit out there knows if these guys are really going to be good in a year’s time or even three year’s time. Its all guess work.
Feel free as always to pipe in your grades below. People yesterday during the draft chat felt Toronto scored big, I am one to agree with them.
Chicago Fire: 4 picks, Baggio Husidic (20th overall); David Sias (43rd overall); Jokull Elisabetarson (52nd overall); and Richard Jata (58th overall)
For a club that had a lot of late picks I have to admit the Fire did pretty well for themseleves. They were the only club to trade up to get anyone and I thought getting Husidic was a nice kid to get. His combine scores put him in the second round but I think the kid has true potential to do some good things in the league. Jata is a hell of a story, if he keeps his head on straight he will be a real steal for this club. Sias is a good value at where they got them. I would have liked to have seen them go a little more defensive with their picks but overall they came out looking very solid.
