Confederations Cup Players Added To Gold Cup Roster

Instead of bringing up some more MLS guys looking for their first shot with the Nats or some guys in need of finding their form again, Bob Bradley has called on seven Confederation Cup players to fill out the additional seven roster spots for his Gold Cup roster.

Here is the list:

Jozy Altidore
Jonathan Bornstein
Conor Casey
Ricardo Clark
Benny Feilhaber
Brad Guzan
Sacha Kljestan

These seven players will not be traveling with the 23-man U.S. Gold Cup squad, but will join the team for specific games during the tournament. I honeestly don’t know how that will work but I am guessing some of the west coast guys will join the team when they play in Seattle and others will join when they are in the east coast playing in DC or in Boston.

Are you happy with these additions or wish some other guys got a shot at this tournament?

CONCACAF Allowing US To Increase Gold Cup Roster

What a difference a week makes for the US national team. First they had a nice result in the Confederations Cup over in South Africa and due to their participation in that tournament CONCACAF is allowing Bob Bradley to increase his roster size for the Gold Cup from 23 to 30.

Here is the initial 23-man USA roster:

GOALKEEPERS- Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (Valarenga), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)
DEFENDERS- Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)
MIDFIELDERS- Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)
FORWARDS- Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

So what seven players would you add to the roster? Here is a list of names that could be considered (I know some may be injured or out of form but it could be a good chance nonetheless):

Christ Pointus, Chis Seitz, Brad Guzan, Jose Francisco Torres, Geoff Cameron, Robbie Findley, Kamani Hill, Cory Gibbs, Michael Orozco, Eddie Johnson, Jeremiah White.

Gold Cup Roster Announced

Just a day after beating Spain in one of the biggest upsets in US Soccer history, head coach Bob Bradley announced his 23-man roster for next month’s Gold Cup.

A few good calls include Kenny Cooper, Santino Quaranta, Stuart Holden and Sam Cronin. You can tell Bradley is back to giving those who haven’t had time with the national team a chance in this tournament.

My question though looking at this is who do we start in goal? I know Busch and Perkins have quality but does Robles bring more to the table?

GOALKEEPERS (3): Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Troy Perkins (IK Start), Luis Robles (FC Kaiserslautern)

DEFENDERS (7): Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Jay Heaps (New England Revolution), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjaellands), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Davy Arnaud (Kansas City Wizards), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Colin Clark (Colorado Rapids), Sam Cronin (Toronto FC), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Logan Pause (Chicago Fire), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew)

FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (AS Monaco), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Santino Quaranta (D.C. United)

Preliminary Gold Cup Roster Released

The preliminary 30-man roster for the U.S. national team’s Gold Cup squad has been revealed. Some names have been left off while others are getting a chance that some would have liked to seen done earlier.

A lot of the bigger names from the Confederation Cup roster have been left off. Kind of weird not seeing Landon Donovan on the roster. I still would have liked to have seen a Geoff Cameron call up or someone like that who really deserves a shot here. I’m sure Cameron’s time will come soon enough though.

What do you all make of this?

GOALKEEPERS: Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann, Luis Robles, Troy Perkins

DEFENDERS: Jonathan Bornstein, Dan Califf, Steve Cherundolo, Jay Demerit, Clarence Goodson, Eric Lichaj, Chad Marhsall, Michael Orozco, Heath Pearce, Michael Parkhurst, Marvell Wynne.

MIDFIELDERS: Freddy Adu, Davy Arnaud, Ricardo Clark, Benny Feilhaber, Eddie Gaven, Stuart Holden, Pablo Mastroeni, Robbie Rogers, John Thorrington, Jose Francisco Torres,

FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore, Conor Casey, Kenny Cooper, Charlie Davies, Jeremiah White
