Update: Allocation Order

A few of you have been wondering where the MLS Allocation Order stands now that FC Dallas has (finally) used their top spot to sign Heath Pearce.

Now the Rapids have the top spot. With very little bit left in the season I doubt Rapids or anyone remotely below them will be able to use their spots in the order. Plus right now there just aren’t many returning American players that will be coming back to MLS to play at this moment.

Anyways, I would imagine this will be the final order until the season is over at which a new order will come out for the 2010 season with the expansion Union in Philly getting the top spot followed by New York and probably San Jose.

1. Colorado Rapids
2. Kansas City Wizards
3. Chivas USA
4. New England Revolution
5. Toronto FC
6. Real Salt Lake
7. Chicago Fire
8. New York Red Bulls
9. Columbus Crew
10. Seattle Sounders FC (Kasey Keller)
11. Houston Dynamo (Felix Garcia)
12. San Jose Earthquakes (Bobby Convey)
13. LA Galaxy (Gregg Berhalter)
14. DC United (Danny Szetela)
15. FC Dallas (Heath Pearce)

Update: Allocation Order

Just as promised folks. Here is an updated allocation order after today’s claim of Danny Szetela by DC United.

Remember once a club uses their allocation position to sign a player that goes through the allocation system that the league has set up, they are then dropped to the bottom of the order.

As usual if you see any mistakes in this just let me know and I will correct it.

1. FC Dallas
2. Colorado Rapids
3. Kansas City Wizards
4. Chivas USA
5. New England Revolution
6. Toronto FC
7. Real Salt Lake
8. Chicago Fire
9. New York Red Bulls
10. Columbus Crew
11. Seattle Sounders FC (Kasey Keller)
12. Houston Dynamo (Felix Garcia)
13. San Jose Earthquakes (Bobby Convey)
14. LA Galaxy (Gregg Berhalter)
15. DC United (Danny Szetela)

DC Claims Szetela

DC United has claimed 22-year old midfielder Danny Szetela today via the allocation system. He trained with the team for the first time today. He will not be available for Saturday’s match, as the is still awaiting receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

Since DC claimed Szetela it means that FC Dallas passed on the young midfielder. DC was second in the allocation order to Dallas and now the Black-and-Red will move all the way to the bottom of the list.

I don’t expect any sort of trade to be done either here for Szetela’s rights between Dallas and DC too. We know how passive Dallas can be in trades dealing with the allocation system. Even if they had traded spots with DC they’d still be top in the rankings after it was all said and done.

So United fans, happy with the pickup?

(Note I’ll have an updated allocation order later this afternoon up for you all)

Cherundolo Eyeing MLS?

From this video it sure sounds like it (3m in).

Currently FC Dallas holds the top spot in the allocation order. Buzz Carrick from 3rd Degree wants it done, can you blame him? I wonder if Dallas would really pass on him if he came back to the league. I also wonder if he’d be enough to get Dallas back into the playoff hunt this season (doubtful).

DC and Colorado follow Dallas in the allocation order. Can you imagine how big of an impact he’d be on a club like one of those two who are in a playoff hunt?

Think Cherundolo will come back this summer? If so where will he end up?

Allocation Order Talk

I’ve had a couple e-mails recently asking about the Allocation order in Major League Soccer. I figured since the summer transfer window is set to open up in the middle of July that we should revisit the current order.

Dallas is still on top, followed by DC and Colorado. Even with Dallas at the top I have a good feeling that they won’t be using that top spot first. However it really just depends on the player that comes into the allocation system and where they want to play. There are a couple names out there like Freddy Adu, Stern John, and a couple others that could be returning to MLS this summer.

Remember once a club uses their allocation position to sign a player that goes through the allocation system that the league has set up, they are then dropped to the bottom of the order. Nothing has changed since LA signed Gregg Berhalter back in April.

If you find any mistakes let me know but I am pretty certain this is the new current order.

1. FC Dallas
2. DC United
3. Colorado Rapids
4. Kansas City Wizards
5. Chivas USA
6. New England Revolution
7. Toronto FC
8. Real Salt Lake
9. Chicago Fire
10. New York Red Bulls
11. Columbus Crew
12. Seattle Sounders FC (Kasey Keller)
13. Houston Dynamo (Felix Garcia)
14. San Jose Earthquakes (Bobby Convey)
15. LA Galaxy (Gregg Berhalter)

Berhalter Signs With LA

Bruce Arena really is putting the old band back together out in LA. His latest addition is defender Gregg Berhalter. The club and league announced the signing today.

“Gregg is an experienced and knowledgeable defender who will be an excellent addition to our club,” Arena said. “He is a good passer and organizer of the defense and I believe that he will help improve our team in the defensive end of the field.”

The Galaxy used their top allocation spot to sign Berhalter. The 35-year-old defender will probably get slotted into a defense that is both young and old.

If healthy this could be a good signing for LA. Even at his age I think bringing a veteran defender on board never hurts at any time of the year, especially this early in the year. Some will probably hate on this signing but I have to admit it is nice to see him in the league and I really think it could pay off for the Galaxy. Yeah, call me crazy.
