Your Weekend Commentary

Just as I mentioned yesterday, I am on the road to Silverton, CO for the next week. I decided to put up a post for you all to make your own comments about this weekend’s action. Believe me there is plenty of soccer to go around for all to discuss. You can talk about your club’s game, a game your just watching online or on the telly, or you can talk about the big clash over in Europe between Spain and Germany.

Here’s what’s on tap for the weekend:
Saturday:
Colorado at Columbus (FSC)
Toronto at New England (DK, MLSnet.tv)
Real Salt Lake at Kansas City Wizards (DK, MLSnet.tv)
San Jose Earthquakes at Chicago Fire (DK, MLSnet.tv)
New York Red Bulls at Chivas USA (HDnet)
Sunday:
LA Galaxy at DC United (ABC)
EURO 2008 FINAL: Germany v. Spain (ABC)

Discuss, be merry and I will see you folks on Monday!

Hooligan Going On Vacation

Yup, as mentioned earlier in the week I will be headed out of the Big D for a week of a nice vacation to the mountains of Colorado. I will be staying in a nice town (from what I hear) called Silverton (left). While I will have internet access at my spot in the mountains, my posts may be a little fewer for the next week.

I do think I will steal a page out of SBI and leave a post up for the weekend for your commentary (thanks to a couple readers for suggesting that, it could become a new thing if it works out even in the slightest).

I could have gotten together a guest blogger or two for the week but since it is only a week and I will be able to write some I decided against that. Maybe next time around, say when me and the lady Hooligan are on our honeymoon.

Anyways, hope everyone enjoys the weekend. Lots of soccer action, especially on Sunday with the double header on ABC with LA and DC and the Euro final with Germany and Spain.

Euro 2008 Hype

Yeah, I’m not gonna pretend to know everything there is about international football/soccer/futbol. But with the Euro 2008 tournament kicking off tomorrow, I thought I would post a video or two to hype everyone else up. Consider this my preview of the tournament if you will.

Its not that I’m not jazzed up for it (because I totally am), its I don’t have enough time or energy right now to preview it like Ives or someone else out there.

As for who I’m rooting for…well seeing how I am a Swede, the boys in yellow will be the ones I will follow closely but once they exit the tournament (which they will probably after group play) I will probably lean towards Portugal or Italy winning it all. Everyone is high on someone like Croatia or Spain, but I’m still hoping Sweden can be that dark horse if their defense holds up.

Who are you all rooting for? Let’s hear it.

Euro 08 Draw Set

I don’t pretend to be an abroad soccer writer but I may attempt to follow the Euro 08 Cup a little closer than I normally would. As a fan when I see this kind of a draw for the final stages of the tournament I have to like what I see, even if a side that I have vast interest in (Sweden) has a tough draw.

But not as tough as another group. As many of you already know from reading other blogs who know the game in Europe far better than I do, Group C is a killer group.

A:
Switzerland * – co-host
Czech Republic
Portugal
Turkey

B:
Austria * – co-host
Croatia
Germany
Poland

C:
Netherlands
Italy
Romania
France

D:
Greece
Sweden
Spain
Russia

I mean come on, if your Italy you have to be a little worried about that draw. Holland, France and a non-pusher over in Romania. Believe me I think Romania has no shot at this group but they will make it entertaining.

Don’t be shocked to see one of the host survive the group stages as well. We’ve seen plenty of surprises in the past Euro tournaments. I mean Greece won it the last time out, who saw that coming?

As for my beloved Swedes, I think Russia and Spain will be tough but I think they should be able to get out of the group stages, probably with Spain.

So overall, I see the Czechs, Swiss (surprise but I am going for it), Germans, Croatians, Italians, Dutch, Swedes, and Spanish….love how I wrote that huh? I see those sides moving on to the next round.

The opening game will be played on Sat Jun 7 in Basel, Switzerland. And the final game will be played on Sun Jun 29 in Wien (Vienna), Austria. All games on some form of ESPN.
