It is a new year, which means it is also time to figure out what will happen in the next 12 months. Given how I failed to really do any sort of thing like this in 2014, it is time to suck it up and make some predictions that are sure to go wrong in the coming year.

So here we go, 15 things I think will happen in 2015.

1. Minnesota will be granted the #24 expansion slot in April.

2. The David Beckham-Miami expansion bid will fall out by June, opening up a new slot for Sacramento to fill.

3. Three more MLS sides will announce that they will fill their own USL PRO side in 2016 (looking at you FC Dallas, Houston and Columbus).

4. The MLS regular season will start out on time as the CBA situation gets resolved in early February without any big fuss. Plus, the players end up not getting anything more than a pay raise.

5. Frank Lampard will play in eight games with NYCFC after joining the club in the late part of the summer.

6. The Eastern Conference won’t be nearly as wide open as some expect it to be with two expansion clubs but instead be a seven team race with the bottom three battling it out for a top SuperDraft spot in 2016.

7. Mix Diskurd will finally sign with a MLS club.

8. New England will be the class of the Eastern Conference but will fail to make MLS Cup.

9. LA will be the class of the Western Conference but will fail to make MLS Cup.

10. One of the following will surprise us and make MLS Cup: FC Dallas, Portland Timbers, Columbus Crew or Philadelphia Union.

11. At least four fairly big US national team players in Europe will return to MLS. One of them will be Jozy Altidore.

12. New England will win the Supporters Shield.

13. New England will also make waves on landing a stadium of their own.

14. RSL, Houston, Colorado and Chicago will all struggle in the new year.

15. Seattle will win MLS Cup.

    Drew,

Enjoy the site! Keep up the good work! My hope for 2015 is that more MLS matches will be televised. I get to watch some BPL on NBC stations, but MLS is few and far between for me in the South.

I think Altidore moves, but to France or back to Holland. I agree that this might be the year the bottom falls out for RSL.

I bet he wishes he hadn’t left Holland when he did. France wouldn’t be a bad landing spot for him though too.

    1. Hope so. 2. Really hope so. 3 REALLY hope so! 4. First part right, second part a little off. 5. Lampard will play 12 (4 goals, 6 assists) as NYCFC nabs the last playoff spot and shuts everybody up. 6. I think you’re wrong there. 7. Done. 8 & 9. True. Cool! 10. Dallas vs. Philadelphia. They will each wear special NFL colors for the game.11: Jozy is in. Sacha next to come, followed by either Herculez Gomez or Edgar Castillo. Forget Jose Francisco Torres for this year (disc surgery) 12: No-brainer. 13: What will they call it? The Legal Seafood Chowder Bowl? 14: BULLSHIT. 15: Long Past Due.
