This is the fifth 2014 World Cup prediction piece as we look at all the groups in this year’s tournament.

Group E

Switzerland (8th the in FIFA Rankings) | 1st in UEFA Group E | 9-14-6 all-time

Ecuador (28th) | 4th in CONMEBOL qualifying | 3-4-0 all-time

France (16th) | 2nd in UEFA Group I, defeated Ukraine 3-2 in playoff | 25-18-11 all-time, one-time champion

Honduras (30th) | 3rd in CONCACAF Fourth Round | 0-3-3 all-time

Switzerland vs Ecuador – I’m really excited to see these two teams square off in this group. I see Ecuador as an underrated team in this group while the Swiss are going to be a tough out. Switzerland 1, Ecuador 1

France vs Honduras – The young French side against a veteran Honduran side. Seems odd but I think the French stumble out of the gates in this one. France 1, Honduras 1

Switzerland vs France – This game may separate who goes through to the knockout round and who goes back to Europe. Given France is without Franck Ribery, I’m going with some Swiss talent to win this one. Switzerland 2, France 1

Honduras vs Ecuador – The two teams that can handle the heat square off. Ecuador has just a little more talent up front and that will be the difference here. Ecuador 2, Honduras 0

Honduras vs Switzerland – Can the Swiss handle Manaus? We’ll find out in the closing game here. I think they managed just enough to get by. Switzerland 1, Honduras 0

Ecuador vs France – France needs some help to get through here while Ecuador will just need a result. Ecuador 1, France 1

Final Standings

Switzerland 7 points

Ecuador 5 points

France 2 points

Honduras 1 point
