One to another group predictions, up next is one of the toughest groups in all of the 2014 World Cup – Group B.

Group B

Spain (1st in FIFA rankings) | First-place finish in UEFA Group I | 28-12-16 all-time, one-time champion

Netherlands (15th) | First-place finish in UEFA Group D | 22-10-11 all-time

Chile (13th) | Third-place finish in CONMEBOL qualifying | 9-6-14 all-time

Australia (59th) | Second-place finish in AFC Group B | 2-3-5 all-time

Predictions:

Spain vs Netherlands – To kick off this group with a rematch of the last World Cup final is a bit of a dream. Spain still has the talent to win this one, which immediately puts pressure on Holland. Spain 1, Netherlands 0

Chile vs Australia – Chile has the chance to make some serious noise in this group because of their schedule. The Aussies are going to be completely out of their element in this group too. Chile 2, Australia 0

Spain vs Chile – This may be one of the more underrated games in the entire group stage. Chile will cause trouble for the Spanish side, but I see the defending champions lasting in this one. Spain 1, Chile 0

Netherlands vs Australia – This is a must-win game for the Dutch, one that I think they’ll be able to do so with relative ease. Netherlands 2, Australia 0

Australia vs Spain – The real work for Spain will begin after this game in the knock out round. They’ll take their foot off the pedal a bit in this one but will still beat the gang from down under. Spain 2, Australia 1

Netherlands vs Chile – Possibly the game of the group here, winner advances to the knockout round. By this time both should be even in the standings which will make for a more dramatic situation. I’m still sticking with my gut that says Chile comes through here. Chile 2, Netherlands 1

Final Standings

Spain – 9 points

Chile – 6 points

Netherlands – 3 points

Australia – 0 points
