- David Villa, Frank Lampard
We always knew Jason Kreis and New York City FC would go bold with some of their first signings. It appears that they will go big as well. Several reports this week suggest that the Big Apple expansion club will be signing two be named Designated Players for their inaugural season.
The Manchester Evening News has offered some solid evidence supporting a connection between Spanish striker David Villa and a potential move to NYCFC. The 32-year old has been seen in Manchester as of late and could be going on loan according to the reports to remain match fit for the start of the 2015 MLS season. Villa will take up a short-term ‘guest player’ slot with another City satellite club; Melbourne Hearts.
The other star player looking to land in the Big Apple is Chelsea star Frank Lampard, who is finally out of contract with the Blues and has been keen on moving to MLS for some time. According to The Mirror, Lampard has agreed to a deal which will see him join NYCFC for their inaugural season in MLS.
The big question with Lampard would be whether or not he would take on a short-term loan in the fall like Villa to keep himself in shape for the 2015 season.
Either way you spin it, NYCFC is setting themselves up in a big way for their first season.
