Well then, this is a bit crazy.

U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has named the USA’s 23-player roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil. The roster will be officially submitted to FIFA on June 2.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)
DEFENDERS (8): DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), John Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Timmy Chandler (Nürnberg), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Fabian Johnson (Borussia Mönchengladbach), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders FC)
MIDFIELDERS (8): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)
FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

After naming the 30-man preliminary roster on May 12, the following seven players have been released from the U.S. MNT’s training camp: forwards Terrence Boyd and Landon Donovan, midfielders Joe Corona and Maurice Edu, and defenders Brad Evans, Clarence Goodson and Michael Parkhurst.

Yedlin is a horrible defender. If he is one of the 23 best players in this country we have no hope.

Obviously the biggest surprise is not seeing Landon Donovan's name on the roster, however, Klinsmann has repeatedly said that you must show yourself to be one of the best players day in and day out, and even Landon admitted that he has to take practices easier every now and then...an attitude totally against Klinsmann's theory. Clarence Goodson is another surprising omission, especially when John Anthony Brooks landed a spot. However, I am ok with taking Yedlin over Brad Evans because both play at Seattle and Evans doesn't start over Yedlin at right back there, so why should it be that way on the World Cup roster.
