The World Cup is right around the corner which means there are a slew of new kits being released in time for the festivities down in Brazil. Recently Nike and US Soccer released the new home kit for the American squad and I like you had a similar reaction. It looks like a golf polo.

Now I am always the type that with just about any kit, I’ll reserve the right to change my mind when I see it in person. I’m like that with MLS jerseys and I’m certainly like that with any national team jersey that comes out.

So when I got the new US kit I was a bit nervous and yet excited at the same time. Excited for the fact that it was new and simple. Excited for it being in front of me and not just on a computer monitor.

Seeing the details of the new kit up close really go a long way in understanding it. The gray stripes on the kit aren’t very noticeable at a first glance when you see an image of it online or on TV. But up close, it really works well on the kit. It keeps it simple.

The other thing you don’t notice is the sides of the jersey which have an almost mesh-like design to them that allow better air flow for the player wearing it.

Lastly, the simple details like the inside of the neck collar, you’ll get some stars and stripes. Or around the collar are red and blue stripes. Simple, not over stated.

Sure this kit isn’t flashy or anything special but it is simple. I’m okay with Nike going in this direction for this home kit though I do wish the USSF would keep the 100th anniversary logo as the crest for the US team. That crest rocked.

Thanks to the good folks at Soccerloco for sending over the new kit to help with this review.
