- 2014 MLS Season
Alexi Lalas had a fun session on Twitter this morning, discussing Designated Player rules and other things. He got to this item about players coming on loan from parent clubs that got me thinking a little bit.
Loans to @MLS: Rule is, as long as player isn’t from “parent club”, salary cap charge is based only on what league is paying player.

So parent clubs. The interesting thing is Alexi mentions Arsenal as a parent club to Colorado. Boy do we always forget that connection, and I think the Rapids do as well.
In the case of Chivas USA and NYCFC, players on loan from parent club carry their full salary over. At least that is how I am reading it all. In other words, if they have a million dollar deal in Mexico (Chivas) or in Manchester (NYCFC), they’ll be a DP in MLS.
I feel that the old NBC graphic is appropriate here.
