Here we are, the conference finals of the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs. Four clubs coached by former MLS players. Some seriously good matchups that will unfortunately span two weeks due to the FIFA break.

I have to make this round of the preview quick. So here it goes.

Eastern Conference:

Sporting KC at Houston Dynamo: The edge goes to the Dynamo in this one. They’ve been here before, now for a third year in a row against SKC. I do think there is some revenge factor involved for SKC here but they won’t be able to do much until they return home. By then, it could be too late. We’ll see. Houston’s attack should give KC some fits like it did New York this past week. I see this series being tighter than the other one in terms of goals scored, so this one may come down to who gets on the board first. I like the Dynamo at home in this case.

WVH Prediction: Houston 1, SKC 0

Western Conference:

Portland Timbers at Real Salt Lake: These two have had some great games already this season in league play and in the US Open Cup. I expect no different in this round of the playoffs with more on the line. Both know the other very well so I’m really not expecting a ton in this opening leg. RSL knows they have to get the upper hand in this one at home while Portland has the confidence to do anything they want in anyone’s building. I think this one will end level heading back to Portland.

WVH Prediction: RSL 1, Portland 1
