The playoffs are a funny, funny beast. Last night we learned that it would be the Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference finals for what feels like the 10th year in a row. Tonight we’ll learn the fate of the Western Conference.

Both series last night went into overtime and I think we may have at least one join them tonight.

Seattle Sounders at Portland Timbers: Portland got the edge away in this one but that one Seattle goal may end up being a big deal by the end of this. I think of the two games tonight, this one does have overtime written on it (at least if I had to pick one of the two that would go that direction). Portland has been very good at home this season and will certainly do everything they can to sit on this slim lead and push for a goal when they get their chances. Seattle will have to push early in this one and their offense hasn’t shown me enough lately that they can do that.

WVH Prediction: Portland 1, Seattle 0 (Portland wins on aggregate)

LA Galaxy at Real Salt Lake: The slim one goal lead isn’t great for LA but it also isn’t a bad thing either. Salt Lake hasn’t proven lately that they can score by the bucket loads and this series reminds me a ton of last year’s against Seattle for them. A tight, defensive encounter that is decided on one goal. This series looks to be heading that way, and if that is the case, LA has the serious advantage in this one. Salt Lake has to push early for a goal and I think they’ll get one, but I also see LA getting one to throw this series back in their corner.

WVH Prediction: RSL 1, LA 1 (LA advances on aggregate)
