Could the Gateway City finally be getting a pro team to call their own? It certainly appears that they are.

Andrew Haines, principal owner of the St. Louis Ambush in the USL’s Major Indoor Soccer League, and Tony Glavin, owner of St. Louis Lions in the USL’s Premier Development League, are working together to start a USL Pro team in St. Louis.

Although they have not formally applied for ownership, they are optimistic about having a team in operation in 2014.

Glavin has held USL rights in the city for a while now, and it was a big reason why the failed AC St. Louis team owned by Jeff Cooper went the NASL route during it’s time. Partnering with the Ambush offers the funding Glavin was lacking. It also doesn’t hurt that MISL is also now part of the USLsoccer.com family.

I’ve talked plenty of times before about how important it would be to get a team in St. Louis. Like many of you, I want a team to succeed in that city and going the USL-Pro route to start is the way to go in my book. At least until there are some serious financial backings to help guide it along to potentially become a MLS expansion site.

This is certainly a baby step or two to get St. Louis to the MLS expansion table.
