A record 20,886 came out to support for Orlando City in the USL PRO championship game over the weekend.
The attendance mark shattered the club’s former mark of 11,220 set in the 2011 USL PRO championship game.
The Lions will learn, likely in the next month, whether City of Orlando and Orange County commissioners will approve funding toward an $85 million, 18,000-seat soccer stadium downtown. Pending the commissioners’ approval, Major League Soccer could award an expansion franchise to Central Florida, Orlando City president Phil Rawlins said.
OCSC captured the title in a wild 7-4 victory over the Charlotte Eagles. Sporting Kansas City’s on-loan forward Dom Dwyer scored four goals in the contest, living up to his “Darth Dwyer” banner on show.
