- 2013 MLS Season, 2013 Week 25, Ben Olsen, Marco Schallibaum
Fridays are typically MLS Discipline Committee days. But today is all news from MLS Commission Don Garber.
Garber has suspended Montreal Impact Head Coach Marco Schallibaum one additional game and issued him an additional fine of $5,000 for his repeated misbehavior. Schallibaum was dismissed from the sideline by the referee during his team’s game against D.C. United on Aug. 17.
Commissioner Garber also rescinded the automatic one-game suspension and fine that D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen received for being dismissed by the referee during the Aug. 17 game in Montreal.
Olsen and Schallibaum engaged in their heated confrontation following a hard aerial challenge between DC’s James Riley and Montreal’s Justin Mapp, which sent the latter clattering into the midfield camera. Referee Ismail Elfath issued a yellow card to Riley and dismissed both Olsen and Schallibaum.
Saturday’s sending-off wasn’t the first infraction committed by Schallibaum, who’s in his first year in MLS. The Swiss manager has been sent off in a total of three matches in 2013 and was also suspended for entering the field of play against the Colorado Rapids.
