Rookie Watch: Two Supplement Draft Picks See Minutes

This is a new thing I am going to attempt to do on Tuesdays (time willing of course). A little look at how the rookies in Major League Soccer faired after each week.

Four first round draft picks – five rookies total, plus Seattle’s homegrown signing DeAndre Yedlin – started on opening day of the 2013 MLS season. Not bad at all for the young guns of the league.

The biggest hat tip for all the rookies had to be the two Supplemental Draft picks that saw minutes on the opening weekend. Taylor Morgan, a Toronto FC draft pick, came on for 15 minutes of Toronto’s 1-0 loss at Vancouver. Taylor is your typical targetman in the attack. He had 23 goals in three seasons at George Mason after transferring from Central Connecticut State.

San Jose’s Adam Jahn also saw seven minutes of action in a 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake.

Well done guys.
