Tomorrow afternoon the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft will get underway with four rounds. Most teams have four picks but there have been some wheeling and dealing in the past year that have altered the first two rounds a decent bit.

There is still some talent to be found in this draft too. We may even see a future Chris Wondolowski in this group. You just never know.

I’ve marked 13 players for you all to look at as we head into the draft. Some of these players I was a little surprised to see passed over in last week’s SuperDraft while others were always earmarked for this draft in my book.

Jose Gomez (Midfielder, Creighton) – At some point his stock took a big hit. Either he said he wasn’t going to play in MLS or scouts just weren’t all that impressed once they really got to see what he was all about. He is a solid player however and could be a good depth piece for someone out there.

Potential targets: Colorado, Chivas USA, or Seattle.

Eric Schonele (Defender, West Virginia) – Yeah, the WVU alumni in me wasn’t happy to see him get passed over last week. Still, someone will take him in this draft, likely in the first round or two.

Potential targets: Seattle, Portland, Columbus, or Philadelphia.

Chris Thomas (Forward, Elon) – One of the best scorers in the college game didn’t get picked last week. Not a real shocker as there were a lot of questions surrounding his game and how it would translate to the professional level.

Potential targets: Chivas USA, FC Dallas, Columbus, or Seattle.

Macheal David (Midfielder, UC Santa Barbara) – Could be a steal for someone looking for midfield depth. Will need some time to develop in the reserve league however.

Potential targets: New York, Chivas USA, or FC Dallas.

Aston Bennett (Forward, Coastal Carolina) – Many thought he would have gone to a Canadian club last week but many were wrong. Still, I think of those the three takes a chance on him.

Potential targets: Montreal, Vancouver or Philadelphia.

Will Bates (Forward, Virginia) – A quality forward that has had injury issues to deal with over the years. If given the chance and if he stays healthy he’ll be a steal for someone.

Potential targets: D.C. United, Houston, or Philadelphia.

John Gallager (Defender, Penn State) – He wasn’t on the initial Combine list but some said he showed fairly well at times while he was there. He is versatile in that he has played up front in college before moving to the defense.

Potential targets: New England, FC Dallas, or Columbus.

T.J. Nelson (Midfielder, SMU) – Another guy that can play multiple spots on the field. He’ll need plenty of time to adjust to the professional level however.

Potential targets: FC Dallas, Colorado, or LA.

Uwem Etuk (Midfielder, West Virginia) – A midfielder that will likely be converted into a full back in MLS. Needs to work on his possession game to really see any impact in MLS.

Potential targets: Sporting KC, Real Salt Lake, or Philadelphia.

Joe Franco (Defender, Cal State Northridge) – One of the few right backs in this draft. He has some injury issues going into the draft which kept him from getting picked last week.

Potential targets: LA, New York, or Portland.

Ryan Clark (Defender, Monmouth) – A work-horse of a player. He showed a good motor from what folks told me at the Combine. Still has some ball handling issues to deal with.

Potential targets: FC Dallas, Colorado, or Philadelphia.

James Belshaw (Goalkeeper, Duke) – One of the better keepers in the draft pool, got passed over though last week. Still, he’ll be a good depth guy to have for someone.

Potential targets: Toronto FC, Chivas USA, or Chicago.

Yannick Smith (Forward, Old Dominion) – One of the last forwards worth looking at in this draft. Decent speed and size. Could be a dark horse kind of player to have down the road if he develops in the right system.

Potential targets: Toronto FC, Chivas USA, or Portland.
