MLS Presents Their Plan For Queens

The hype and rumors are getting put aside as MLS moves forward with their expansion hopes in Queens. Yesterday the league laid out it’s plan for the stadium in the New York City borough in front of a town hall meeting of 500 plus people.

MLS commissioner Don Garber gave a speech to the crowd, addressing what the league plans to do with the land, the stadium and what it would all mean for the locals. The Borough Boys supporters group showed up in full force kicking off a potential supporters group rival against the New York Red Bulls groups.

The plan itself should work if everything pans out. It is 100% privately financed, something a lot of people can smile about. It will create some 2,100 jobs and have an annual economic activity of $60 million and the promise of community service.

We will not take any more land. We will not have to raise any roofs and we will not have to build it any higher.”[/quote]

MLS will also be relocating park space in the Flushing Meadows Park acre-for-acre and renovate the popular soccer fields that are in desperate need of a facelift.

I will say I am excited to see some potential stadium renderings whenever we get to that point in this process. Just to see how the stadium will be able to eventually go from 25,000 to 35,000 will be interesting to see laid out.

Slowly and surely this deal and potential expansion team is getting done.
