Before the start of the 2012 MLS season, the New York Red Bulls were desperate for a goalkeeper. They drafted Ryan Meara but were never truly satisfied with what they had. At the time they tried to get American keeper Luis Robles but were denied at the time to sign him by the league.
The Red Bulls today acquired Robles via the MLS Allocation Process. Nine teams passed on Robles to allow the Red Bulls to sign him.
Robles signed with the league yesterday and was immediately placed in the allocation process.
Robles spent the past five seasons in the Germany and was most recently with Karlsruher SC, where he made 28 appearances from 2010-12. The 28-year-old started his stint in Germany with FC Kaiserslautern in 2007 and appeared in 36 games for the club.
