Juventus, the Italian Serie A champion, has cancelled a North American preseason tour that included three games in the US and Canada, including one against a MLS side D.C. United.
United sent out this statement earlier to the press about the disappointing cancelation:
“We’ve received word that Juventus FC will no longer be playing in Washington, D.C. While we’re disappointed with the news, D.C. United is already in discussions with another, major European team to fill that date and will share opponent and ticketing details as a deal is finalized.”
Juventus had signed on to also play Paris Saint-Germain in Montreal and Real Madrid in Las Vegas. Now Soccer United Marketing is left to scramble and find a quick replacement for all three games.
No word yet on who the team will be that will replace Juventus for United. If I had to bet it would be on an EPL side – maybe Tottenham? Just a hunch there.
Still this is a tough blow for United fans and soccer fans in Montreal and Vegas who paid money for these games – good money too as these games aren’t cheap.
