It will be yet another busy weekend in Major League Soccer. Nine games – headlined by two big rivalry games – stretched across two days.

Plenty of interesting things to watch for after yesterday’s two big trades involving Chivas USA. I have to say the Goats really made some noise yesterday but so did the New York Red Bulls.

Nine games to get to so here is how I see the weekend rounding out.

Saturday

Seattle Sounders FC at Vancouver Whitecaps: I have to think that the Sounders will certainly benefit from the Caps being in the Canadian Championships this week. Sure Martin Rennie’s club was at home for their first leg match with Toronto but it won’t be easy to get up for this game with the deciding match in that Cup next week in Toronto. Rennie will likely rest some key players while Seattle is expected to throw the wolfs at Vancouver. It feels like a draw but I think Seattle gets an early one in this and rides it out.

WVH Prediction: Seattle 2, Vancouver 1

New York Red Bulls at Montreal Impact: After these met the first time a few weeks back I would have never dreamed this rematch to be a good one. But give credit to both sides, New York is playing stronger by the week and Montreal is definitely improving here. Big question is whether or not Heath Pearce will be used or not in this one. Either way I think Montreal holds on for a draw.

WVH Prediction: Montreal 1, New York 1

Toronto FC at D.C. United: Just like Vancouver, I see Toronto not putting a ton of effort into this one. D.C. will certainly benefit from this as they played very well on Wednesday against Colorado. Hamdi Salihi and Dwayne De Rosario both are on the same page now and that is very dangerous for the rest of the league. DeRo is always a beast against his former clubs as it is so I’d expect him to do well in this one.

WVH Prediction: D.C. 3, Toronto 1

Houston Dynamo at New England Revolution: Back on the road for the Dynamo, this time in New England. I’d imagine this one will come down to the wire as both always play one another tight. A set piece goal by Houston will likely come but don’t sleep on New England to give up too easy in this one.

WVH Prediction: New England 1, Houston 1

Philadelphia Union at FC Dallas: Both teams will be missing key players on the attack (Freddy Adu for Philly, Brek Shea for Dallas) but no bigger loss may be than to Dallas not having Zach Loyd in the back. He’s been a rock for them this season. Still, the Union attack hasn’t been anything worth writing home about this season and even with the suspensions and injuries Dallas still has more to offer here.

WVH Prediction: Dallas 1, Philadelphia 0

Sporting Kansas City at Colorado Rapids: This one is a real cracker to figure out. Usually you don’t want to play a team like KC on short rest but the fact that the game is in Colorado does make it a little challenging for KC. Expect this one to be wide open with a lot of back and forth play in the midfield. Colorado didn’t look great in the midweek in D.C. and I’d imagine they’ll be a bit gassed for this one on short rest.

WVH Prediction: Sporting 2, Colorado 0

LA Galaxy at Chivas USA: Chivas made some headlines yesterday but I doubt they’ll be enough for this one. LA hasn’t been great either lately but the star power should be enough to lift them to three points in this one. At some point I just see this LA team turning things around for good.

WVH Prediction: LA 1, Chivas 0

Columbus Crew at San Jose Earthquakes: The Crew got a nice result last week against a shorthanded Dallas squad but they won’t be so lucky against San Jose. The Quakes know the top position in the league is within their sights and they’ll want to get a hold of it at home here.

WVH Prediction: San Jose 2, Columbus 0

Sunday

Chicago Fire at Portland Timbers: The lone Sunday match, one that should be interesting given the way these two played one another last season. I’d imagine this one will be open and plenty of scoring chances will be there for the taking. Part of me wants to take the Fire in this one given their recent form but I see Portland causing issues for them in this one.

WVH Prediction: Portland 1, Chicago 1
