I won’t go too much into this signing. The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed their 7th, yes 7th striker for the 2012 season in the form of Maltese international Etienne Barbara.

Barbara rejoins head coach Martin Rennie, the two were together in the NASL with the Carolina RailHawks.

He did win MVP honors in the NASL last year and scored a butt-load of goals (20). Just how that translates into success on a MLS pitch will remain to be seen. But boy that is a crowded group of attackers. My guess is he’ll play a little more on the wing than up top and probably compete for time with Atiba Harris. Just a hunch.

Overall though I don’t think it is that bad of a signing. Why not add another striker to the worst attacking team in the league last season?
