- 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Andrew Wenger, Darren Mattocks, Features, Generation adidas
The 2012 MLS SuperDraft just got a little better. Fox Soccer’s Ives Galarcep is reporting that the league has secured deals with two of the top prospects in this year’s draft in Akron striker Darren Mattocks and Duke midfielder/defender Andrew Wenger.
Mattocks was rumored to go to Europe over the last couple weeks. Montreal has the top pick in the draft and are said to be keen on taking Mattocks.
MLS is expected to announce at least part of its Generation adidas class on Wednesday. Mattocks and Wenger join UC Santa Barbara forward Sam Garza on the GA list for this year’s draft. The report from Fox Soccer also indicates that the league is close to signing four more players to GA deals. Those players include UCLA’s Chandler Hoffman and Kelyn Rowe, UNC’s Billy Schuler and Enzo Martinez.
Should any of those players not take the GA deal the league could turn to South Florida striker Dom Dwyer, Notre Dame midfielder Dillon Powers and Creighton defender Tyler Polak.
