File this one under the section of things that the Seattle Sounders front office does well. This clever set of videos are to help get fans in Seattle to renew their season tickets for another season. Seriously. All jokes aside with these videos but this is great. You don’t see one other clubs in the…[continue reading]

More On Fixing The Playoffs

Grant Wahl had this idea about changing the MLS playoff structure. Okay, well he borrowed it from Brian Stratus and elaborated on it but overall not a bad plan. Just like the World Cup, each team will play a game against the other teams in its group. But (unlike the current system) there will be a…[continue reading]

MLS Week 27: What To Watch For

Let’s just go ahead and say that this week has already been interesting for the 18 MLS clubs. The five involved in CONCACAF Champions League games only saw one positive result in Seattle’s 2-1 win down in Costa Rica last night. Others either got blown out or dropped a disappointing points. The What If Game: If MLS Did Away With Conference Playoff Brackets

I’ve been sitting on this thought for some time now. We all know the new MLS playoff system is a ten-team deal with wild card games and the whole shebang. We know the advantages right now of some teams in the wild card zone playing in the Eastern Conference bracket instead of the Western Conference…[continue reading]

Our focus right now is the 20th team in New York and we have not yet set a timeline for expansion beyond that, or even (determined) if we’re going to expand beyond that. There’s no place we need to be. Even at the size we are, we have a tremendous national footprint and are at the size that soccer leagues typically are. We feel good about the size we’re at. Other markets could be very successful as MLS markets, but (expanding beyond 20) wouldn’t be out of need. We don’t need to grow beyond where we are.
~ MLS president Mark Abbott

I saw this quote in an article on MLS expansion over at the Sporting News. Nothing really ground-breakingly new in the piece on expansion. The same markets are mentioned but the meat is really in this quote. Abbott says the league will likely slow down expansion after number 20, something I’ve been saying on here…[continue reading]

Yesterday the MLS Player’s Union released their final player salary information for the 2011 season. This information included all the newcomers that have come into the league during the summer transfer window. I never went too in depth in the salaries the last time the Player’s Union released their information. I know I talked about…[continue reading]
