MLS Week 28: Picks

The weekend slate is finally here, it is Friday and that means it is Soccer Night In America. Okay, I have to admit I have trouble typing that without a little bit of a laugh. For one that show title will only last a year since FSC or Fox Soccer since MLS is moving to…[continue reading]

EPL Week 6 Preview

By Geoff Reid Saturday 24th Manchester City vs Everton from the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City’s fast start to this season has cooled a little with Roberto Mancini’s men dropping two points away at Fulham last weekend, and it was especially disappointing being 2-0 up and letting a two goal lead slip. It’s one of those…[continue reading]

Get A Throwback Jersey When Renewing Your Quakes Season Tickets

Not to be outdone by other club’s season ticket renewals, the San Jose Earthquakes are doing something that I really hope catches on from other MLS clubs. Renew your season tickets today and you get a free NASL throwback kit. That my friends is bad ass. I’ve been hoping for a long time now that…[continue reading]

MLS Week 28: What To Watch For

The MLS playoff picture could become a little clearer this weekend. A couple teams have a chance to clinch berths while a few others could be eliminated for good. Every club is in action this weekend, which will be fun. You have to like this time of the year when everyone is involved in some…[continue reading]

Sporting KC Vs. Philadelphia Union: Defense Is Key

Here is a little story I wrote for SBNation.com earlier today. Tomorrow’s Sporting KC-Philadelphia game has so many meanings behind it but for me the defense is the biggest key for both club’s success. This game has the makings of being totally open in the offense if the defenses fail to show up.

I’m focusing on really performance at my highest level. That doesn’t mean that the whole backline can perform at that same level, so that’s a problem,” Marquez said through an interpreter after the 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake, before adding, I think this is a team game and unfortunately there isn't an equal level between my teammates and I.
~ Rafa Marquez, after New York's 3-1 loss to RSL last night.

Well this isn’t the way to win over fans…or teammates. Hate to say it but Rafa, I don’t think you’re on your teammates level. Boy this New York club is in bad shape. Anyone feel they resemble the 2008 Galaxy?

An Idea For A Few MLS Teams

My pal Daniel over at BigDSoccer.com just posted this photo on his twitter feed. Valencia of La Liga in Spain did this clever jersey sponsor idea of promoting their brand online instead of having a big time sponsor. I’d say for clubs like FC Dallas, the Colorado Rapids, the Columbus Crew, Sporting Kansas City and…[continue reading]

MLS Wednesday Quick Picks: Three Big Games

Only a few weeks remain in the 2011 regular season. The squeaky-bum time is now for several MLS teams as the playoffs are near. All three of tonight’s games have playoff implications surrounding them in some form or fashion. One team can even clinch a playoff berth (as long as a few other things happen).…[continue reading]

Doubting Columbus

Boy, folks sure are down on the Columbus Crew these days. Either it is due to their lack of form in the league at the moment, their injury list piling up like a 10-car pileup on the freeway, or it is just due to them being in Columbus. Today’s article goes straight to the heart…[continue reading]

“We know absolutely, positively, the MLS is interested in [a franchise] for Las Vegas. They have said that themselves.”
~ Dennis Porter, Utility Services Director of the City of Henderson

It sounds like the Vegas stadium deals are getting closer to happening. Big question is, can they line up an owner to guide a MLS team into the expansion discussion? A deal would call for the stadium in Vegas to be done by 2014.
