MLS Cup Playoff Race: Dallas Next In, Galaxy Near Shield

One more team can clinch a MLS Cup Playoff berth this week while a couple others are on the brink of elimination. The LA Galaxy are also on the verge of winning their second straight Supporter’s Shield as well.

FC Dallas will qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs IF:

  • FC Dallas defeat Colorado this week AND two of the following occur:
    • Portland loses or ties vs. Vancouver
    • Houston loses to Chicago
    • New York loses to Toronto

Toronto FC and/or the New England Revolution will be eliminated from playoff contention IF:

  • Toronto and/or New England fail to win this week OR
  • New York wins or ties OR
  • D.C. United wins OR
  • Portland wins
  • (Toronto FC and New England cannot both qualify)

San Jose Earthquakes will be eliminated from playoff contention IF:

  • San Jose loses to Kansas City this week AND two of the following occur:
    • Philadelphia ties either game this week
    • D.C. United wins either game this week
    • New York defeats Toronto
  • OR San Jose ties Kansas City AND:
    • Columbus ties or wins one game this week AND
    • Philadelphia wins either game this week AND
    • D.C. United wins either game this week

LA Galaxy will win the Supporters’ Shield for best regular season record IF:

  • LA Galaxy defeat Real Salt Lake on Saturday AND
    • Seattle fails to defeat New England OR
  • Real Salt Lake loses to Chicago (Wednesday) AND ties LA Galaxy AND
    • Seattle fails to defeat New England
