Ochoa Lands With Seattle

The Seattle Sounders FC have landed a new striker to help out with their big schedule. The club has signed striker Sammy Ochoa via the allocation system today.

Ochoa was recently with Tecos in Mexico and signed with the league earlier this week. The former U-20 national team member played under Sigi Schmid and was even with the club during the summer training.

Seattle traded up in the allocation order with Chicago to sign Ochoa too. Seattle was at the number seven post, which Chicago at number four. Chicago will receive a 3rd Round pick in next year’s SuperDraft as compensation for the deal.

Chivas USA, Toronto FC and the Houston Dynamo all passed on Ochoa. Seattle wanted to make this move because the allocation order resets the same day as the roster freeze (Sept. 15).

We shouldn’t be shocked at all by seeing Chivas USA pass on yet another player in the allocation system. They’ve held on the top spot for the majority of the season now and have no made any indication that they were willing to use it. Ochoa won’t gardner a top salary like a Benny Feilhaber or a Freddy Adu either so this move clear means the club does not want to spend. Plus, let’s us not forget they just had to take on Juan Pablo Angel’s salary too (or at least some of it).
