Just a little heads up about a story I just posted over at SBNation.com. The New York Cosmos are apparently heading to Vegas next winter to participate in the Winter Kick.

Apparently the preseason tournament is hoping to have someone big to play the Cosmos. They talk about getting a team form South America, Mexico or Europe (along with a MLS team or two). Not sure how they’ll convince an European team to come in the middle of February but we’ll see. If they have the cash to throw at some club it wouldn’t be that big of a shocker.

Interesting that the Cosmos are doing things like this even though they don’t have a full fledged squad yet. I’d imagine they’ll get most of their academy kids and some of their PDL players involved in this one similar to how they did for the Paul Scholes Testimonial match.

What do you make of the Cosmos doing something like this?

  • I think it is a good idea because it is different. The possibility of having some of the finest teams in the world (note: I am not saying best) to play in matches like this, can bring these NY Cosmos some extra fans.
