- 2011 MLS Season, 2011 Season Predictions, 2011 Week 19
It seems as though there are more games this weekend than there really are in MLS but with a good chunk of them being friendlies its a little tough to keep everything straight. Still the league matches that are set for this weekend should prove to be good ones in the end.
I’m working on a few things today so I’ll keep these short.
FC Dallas at New York Red Bulls: A big time showdown at Red Bull Arena. Both teams coming off midweek games that went in different directions for each. Dallas won a big one in Toronto while New York got clobbered in Colorado. You have to think the Red Bulls will want to rebound strong from that match against one of the league’s best sides. They’ll be without some key players still and Dallas will look to test their depth with speedy play from Brek Shea and Marvin Chavez. I think the Red Bulls will bounce back nicely but this one feels like a draw.
WVH Prediction: New York 1, Dallas 1
Portland Timbers at Columbus Crew: Could be an interesting match considering all the moves that these two clubs have made in the last week. Portland did find success on the road for a change last week in Chicago but I don’t see lightning striking twice for them. Columbus is a little better in defense and should find a way to get by in this one.
WVH Prediction: Columbus 1, Portland 0
Toronto FC at Sporting Kansas City: The new look Reds didn’t look horrible against Dallas on Wednesday but they didn’t exactly do anything special either. I’ve said it for a couple weeks now that KC has to start making these games count, especially the home ones like this. I think they will as Jeferson, their new DP should help get their offense back on track as Toronto’s defense still has a ways to go here.
WVH Prediction: KC 3, Toronto 1
New England Revolution at Colorado Rapids: Well, it looks like Colorado isn’t going away quietly here after Wednesday’s beating against New York. Sanna Nyassi’s move to the forward spot may have been exactly what the club needed after all. His speed was deadly against the Red Bulls but so was his finishing. Seeing how they’ll face a New England side that doesn’t do well in Colorado makes me believe this could be another open game for the defending champs.
WVH Prediction: Colorado 3, New England 0
San Jose Earthquakes at Real Salt Lake: Real is too consistent defensively for a team like San Jose to see success. The Quakes may have gotten back on track offensively on Wednesday but playing in and against Salt Lake is never easy for a goal-shy team like this. They’ll keep it close but expect RSL to start playing catch up in the standings with all these games in-hand.
WVH Prediction: RSL 2, San Jose 0
Houston Dynamo at Chivas USA: Two teams that are neck and neck in the playoff race square off in the Saturday night finale. Houston is still searching for their first road win of the season and Chivas is hoping to pass Houston in the standings here. I dunno, this one doesn’t have a lot to it as neither team excites me these days. Calling a draw here.
WVH Prediction: Chivas 1, Houston 1
