With the 2011 MLS All-Star Game over and done with, its already time for the league to plan ahead to next year’s game. Kudos to the Brotherly Game for posting this earlier this morning too by the way. Right now the league and Don Garber are looking at three potential places for the 2012 ASG and as you’d expect it the sites involve fairly new clubs in the league.
Philadelphia, Kansas City, Vancouver and Montreal are being looked at by the league’s as prospective All-Star Game host cities. Now I made the joke last night that KC would likely be the host but got shot down by the one and only MLS Insider Shawn Francis. SF didn’t say it wouldn’t happen but he did mention that KC is set to host the MLB ASG next year so the city hosting two sports ASGs would seem unlikely. I thought Portland would be a candidate but its possible both KC and Portland are being considered for a bigger game (MLS Cup).
It was interesting to hear Garber mention that the league can now plan in advance for events like this, something that they weren’t able to do years ago. Just shows how far the league has come.
“The good thing is that we’re not going anywhere, so we can start thinking about laying out our All-Star schedule two, three, four or even five years in advance like the other leagues do. That wasn’t something we were thinking about a number of years ago.”
