Time for some attendance numbers for you attendance geeks out there. The Sports Business Daily released current attendance figures to date in comparison to this time last season. As expected the league has enjoyed a 6.3% raise in folks at the gate with only five clubs seeing negative percentages (The Union are one of those teams in the negative and its largely due to them playing their first two games at the Linc in Philly).

Good to see clubs like FC Dallas  and New York up in their numbers from this time last season. The ones that are on the down are largely due to performance on the field (Toronto, Chicago) and lack of marketing (Columbus).

Notes: Teams can exceed 100% capacity because of standing-room-only ticket sales. All attendance figures are based on totals posted immediately following games. It may not reflect any subsequent adjustments made by teams or the league. * = The Union played their first two games at Lincoln Financial Field last season before moving into PPL Park. ** = Sporting KC moved to Livestrong Sporting Park this season, having relocated from CommunityAmerica Ballpark after the ’10 season. *** = Includes a designated Earthquakes home game against the Red Bulls played at Stanford Stadium in July.

Not bad, everyone is at least above 10k. I remember when I think it was Dallas who got 4,000 in a few times last year… So overall nice to see.

Two contribitors to the attendence drop in Columbus this year:

They blew up the entire team over the off-season and got rid of favorites like Schelotto and Heidjuk.

And it stormed/rained in 4 of our first 5 games and kept people away.

Last weekend with good weather we had 14k which is more in line with the norm for us.

  • Mik

Philly played first 2 games at the Linc last season, not this season.

    • Guess I didn’t make that clear enough in the opening paragraph. Sorry about that. I meant that they played there to start the season last year…not this year.

I’m incredibly tired of hearing excuses for Columbus.  Part of the reason their attendance is so low is that their supporters are willing to make excuses.  Get up off you asses and do something about the piss poor effort from you owner.
