The Not-So All-Stars

Each year when the MLS All-Star Roster is announced there are always a mass amount of players that are usually more deserving of the honor than some of those that get to play in the game. For the most part I don’t care a whole lot about the All-Star game but I did want to point out those who I felt got over looked in a big way this season. In a way it makes me wish the league would just go back to a East v. West game if they intend on keeping this mid-summer friendly.

For guys from Seattle and Dallas, they each have CCL games ahead that conflicted with this game. Kasey Kellery and Brek Shea wer on the First XI but would not be available for the game. But saying that Hans Backe did miss a couple key guys from each of those teams.

Anyways below are the guys I felt got snubbed this season:

Keepers: Kevin Hartman and Nick Rimando

—Notes: No real need to explain this one. Both are amazing keepers for their clubs and each bring a lot to the table. Nothing against what Faryd Mondragon and Tally Hall have done this season but both Rimando and Hartman are huge reasons as to why their clubs are doing well this year.

Defense: George John, Ugo Ihemelu, Nat Borchers, Carlos Valdes, Todd Dunivant, Sheanon Williams, and Chad Marshall

—Notes: I was pretty shocked not to see guys like Valdes named. Same goes with Dallas’ duo of John and Ihemelu. Still, the league is proving to have loads of depth in defense with names like this getting snubbed.

Midfield: Osvaldo Alonso, Daniel Hernandez, Mauro Rosales, Joel Lindpere, Will Johnson, Davide Chiumiento, Jackson Goncalves, and Juninho

—Notes: Biggest surprise for me was the lack of Alonso. How he was overlooked even for an inactive All-Star is beyond me.

Forwards: Eric Hassli, Luke Rodgers, Fredy Montero, Charlie Davies, and Andres Mendoza

—Notes: A few injured players here but Montero and Mendoza have been solid lately for their clubs.
