MLS Power Rankings: Week 15

In a way we are at the midway point of the season. Most of the teams are at 17 games while a few others have played more or there are some that have played a few less. Still, it feels like halfway to me.

There weren’t a lot of changes in the top half of the rankings this week. Only a slight flip-flop between a couple clubs. But the bottom half of the rankings saw more movement as a couple teams are bubbling up to the surface while others continue to sink.

Here’s how I see things after week 15:

	1 (1)	9-2-8 35 pts.	Crazy moments seeing Mike Magee go to keeper and then get a shutout. Thing is the Galaxy have to hope the injury to Donovan Ricketts isn’t serious.
	2 (2)	9-4-4 31 pts.	No Fabian Castillo, no problem. The four goal outburst against Portland was one of their most complete performances of the seasons.
	3 (3)	8-4-7 31 pts.	Not a bad week, two games and six points (nine points in the last eight days too). Sounders are quickly becoming a big contender in the Western Conference here.
	4 (4)	7-3-5 26 pts.	It doesn’t matter if it was just Toronto, a big win at home like that should get this team back on course.
	5 (6)	7-4-5 26 pts.	Hard to believe this second year club hasn’t lost at home yet. While it isn’t always pretty, this club continues to get results.
	6 (5)	5-3-9 24 pts.	I keep telling people that until they get their goalkeeper situation under control that this team will not win a MLS Cup.
	7 (8)	6-4-6 24 pts.	Not long after we wrote off Andres Mendoza as a DP bust, he netted his fifth and sixth goals this past week. With that, the Crew are starting to look like a tough team to face here.
	8 (7)	5-5-7 22 pts.	I’m not completely ready to write off the Rapids here but I do think they’re looking less like a team that will repeat as MLS Cup Champions by the week.
	9 (9)	5-5-5 20 pts.	It looks as though the offense has died yet again, time to hit a reset button in the form of Chris Wondolowski returning from the Gold Cup.
	10 (13)	4-6-5 19 pts.	I’m starting to wonder if this club will ever get a road win this season. Still the result at RFK wasn’t bad. Nice to see Brian Ching back on the boards.
	11 (11)	4-5-6 18 pts.	At some point this team has to make a run right? The trade for Brandon McDonald says a lot about how their defense could change over the next couple of weeks.
	12 (14)	4-6-5 17 pts.	Still a ways to go but this club hasn’t lost since mid-May. Not bad.
	13 (15)	2-4-11 17 pts.	The defense is solid but offensively they aren’t doing enough to get three points. They are three ties short of a league record too. Not a good thing though if you ask me.
	14 (10)	4-7-5 17 pts.	Yup, this team just can’t hold a lead to save their life. A win over Chicago this week could help the situation out but I’m not banking on it.
	15 (12)	4-6-5 18 pts.	Forth loss in their last five games. Depth just isn’t there for this expansion club at the moment but it wouldn’t be bad for John Spencer to make a couple changes to shake things up.
	16 (16)	3-8-6 15 pts.	It has just been a bad couple of weeks in New England for the Revs.
	17 (17)	2-7-8 14 pts.	Jay DeMerit going off yet again with a groin injury didn’t make matters any better in KC for the Whitecaps.
	18 (18)	2-5-7 15 pts.	Let’s face it, Toronto was never going to win at Rio Tinto Stadium.
