I’m usually not for big friendly tournament mid-way through a season but this one may be too cool to pass up. The New York Red Bulls have been invited to play in the Emirates Cup in London this July.
New York will be the first MLS team to participate in the tournament, which is in it’s fifth year. The Red Bulls will play along side host Arsenal, Paris-St. Germain and Boca Juniors. Red Bull Designated Player Thierry Henry played at Arsenal, where he was the team’s all-time leading goalscorer with 226 goals.
The Red Bulls will play PSG on July 30 before squaring off with Arsenal on July 31.
Sure the tournament comes smack-dab in the middle of the season but it does fall in a period of time that the Red Bulls have some space to work with. They have a gap in their schedule between facing FC Dallas in late July and their first game in August at Rio Tinto Stadium against Real Salt Lake.
