Here is something you don’t always see in a stadium naming rights agreement. Today, Sporting Kansas City reached an agreement with the LIVESTRONG Foundation for the naming rights of Sporting’s new soccer stadium that is slated to open this June.
The stadium will be called LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
Yes, the name will have to be in all caps when typing it for those wondering.
This is a cool deal really between the two groups. You rarely see a professional team side with a non-profit organization on a naming rights deal like this, so kudos to KC on this deal. I have to say even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the rebrand to the Kansas City name this winter, the work this club has done off the pitch to their new identity works for me. Deals like this show they are about bridging the gap between the community and the club.
So what do you make of the stadium’s new name? All I can say is that I cannot wait to visit this venue in person in the near future. Every time I see photos of it I think it will be one of the top venues in the league.
