- 2011 MLS SuperDraft, Jason Garey, Trades
To some this won’t be a big deal, to others it could be. Hours before the league dives into it’s brand new offseason free agency draft of sorts known as the Re-Entry Draft, a trade went down.
The Columbus Crew have sent forward Jason Garey to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for 4th round MLS SuperDraft pick in 2015 (yes you read that date correctly).
Garey has scored 15 goals and added six assists in 83 regular-season games, including 40 starts.
I’ve been saying for a couple seasons now that Garey is a solid player but needed a change of scenery to do well in MLS. I think in a place like Houston that will happen. The Dynamo are now a bit younger at striker, an area they need more depth in going into the 2011 season. Dominic Kinnear gets a young guy with plenty of MLS experience but someone he can fit into his style of play.
The Crew weren’t going to keep him so getting a future draft pick, even a pathetic 4th rounder four years from now is better than nothing I suppose.
