FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman will lead the way for the 19-man Generation adidas team as they go to Spain next week. The team will train at the Real Madrid training facilities in Valdebebas. Then they will play three matches against the reserve teams of Real Madrid (Dec. 2), Rayo Vallecano (Dec. 7) and Atlético Madrid (Dec. 8).
The only problem is Hyndman or MLS forgot to call in defenders. Just look at this roster:
Goalkeepers (2): Stefan Frei (Toronto), Sean Johnson (Chicago)
Defenders (2): Jeremy Hall (Portland), Ike Opara (San Jose)
Midfielders (8): Corben Bone (Chicago), Danny Cruz (Houston), Dilly Duka (Columbus), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Baggio Husidic (Chicago), Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia), Brek Shea (Dallas), Tony Tchani (New York)
Forwards (7): Juan Agudelo (New York), Tristan Bowen (Los Angeles), Teal Bunbury (Sporting Kansas City), Peri Marosevic (Dallas), Jack McInerney (Philadelphia), Danny Mwanga (Philadelphia), Andrew Wiedeman (Dallas)
I suppose Okugo and Tchani could play in the back as well. Just kind of funny to see two defenders called into a camp for something like this. I guess that also means the league hasn’t signed any quality GA defenders over the last year or so.
I’m kind of surprised Omar Salgado isn’t making this trip. But I guess calling in eight forwards would be just ridiculous too. Its also worth noting that two GA players are skipping the trip, FC Dallas keeper Josh Lambo and Chivas USA midfielder Blair Gavin.
Anyways this should be an interesting trip to watch from a distance.
