2010 Playoff Update: 3 Spots Remain

Its getting down to the wire. Only three spots remain in the hunt for the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs. Six teams are still in the running for those three spots but they could all be wrapped up very soon as the Seattle Sounders FC, the Colorado Rapids and the San Jose Earthquakes all have a decent enough lead over the chasing Kansas City Wizards, Toronto FC and Chicago Fire.

The three spots could be clinched this weekend. But a lot depends on the outcome of the Seattle-Kansas City game before that can happen.

Below are the remaining possibilities going into week 28.

Seattle Sounders FC will clinch a playoff spot this week IF:

  • SEA defeats or ties KC Saturday

Colorado Rapids will clinch a playoff spot this week IF:

  • COL defeats DAL AND
  • SEA defeats or ties KC Saturday

San Jose Earthquakes will clinch a playoff spot this week IF:

  • SJ defeats DC on Saturday AND
  • SEA defeats KC

Kansas City Wizards will be eliminated IF:

  • SEA defeats KC AND
  • SJ defeats DC AND
  • COL defeats DAL

Toronto FC will be eliminated IF:

  • TOR ties or loses to CHV OR IF
  • SJ defeats or ties DC

Chicago Fire will be eliminated IF:

  • CHI ties or loses to CLB OR IF
    • COL defeats or ties DAL AND
    • SJ defeats DC
