First of all let me say sorry for not being around much today and most of this week. My regular day job has been doing a number on me as some of you know. So needless to say today’s previews for this weekend’s seven games will be fairly light. What can I say its just how it has to be. I’m hoping next week things will return to normal a little bit and I can get back to commenting on the usual daily stuff around here.

So on to the super-quick weekend preview!

Colorado Rapids  – at – Philadelphia Union

Another home game for the expansion kids from Philly. This time they get another Mountain Time Zone team in Colorado. Lucky for the Union the Rapids are in the middle of a funk for the most part. Had it not been for a gifted goal last week they’d still be on shaky ground for the playoff race. Look for it to be a tight game with Sebastien Le Toux making a difference.

WVH Prediction: Philadelphia 2, Colorado 1

LA Galaxy – at – New York Red Bulls

Best team in the league against the second-best team from the east. Probably the best time for the Red Bulls to host the Galaxy, who are in the middle of their own funk right now. With all the star power on stage it should be very entertaining to watch. New York will try to beat LA with speed and can do it but it all comes down to the health of Thierry Henry. If he’s 100% then look for New York to get a big win in this one. I’m sticking with a draw for now though as I’m still a bit iffy on the Red Bull defense.

WVH Prediction: New York 1, LA 1

FC Dallas – at – D.C. United

The hottest club in the league against the saddest club in the league. Interesting match up that could see Dallas trip up for once. They haven’t been good at RFK Stadium before and this could be a trap game in some ways for FCD. The thing is D.C. has little offense to put pressure on the backline of FCD and I’d imagine David Ferreira and company should have no trouble scoring on the shaky United defense.

WVH Prediction: Dallas 2, D.C. 0

Houston Dynamo – at – New England Revolution

Ah, just a couple years ago this was a marquee match in MLS. Not so today however as injuries and transfers have made these two clubs into shells of what they used to be. Still the solid coaching is there to match it interesting enough to tune in to. The Revs have looked to turn the corner a bit lately while Dominic Kinnear’s bunch is still figuring out what to do with themselves across the pitch offensively and defensively.

WVH Prediction: New England 2, Houston 1

Columbus Crew – at – Real Salt Lake

The other big matchup of the weekend is out in Sandy, UT, with the Crew and RSL. Too bad Columbus won’t have two of their better players in Robbie Rogers and Eddie Gavin. Both are out due to injury. Each club is about to start the bulk of their fall schedule with the CONCACAF Champions League and this is the first test in that stretch really. Each will want to get off to a good start but I see RSL making the push here in this one. Columbus looked good a week ago but they’ll look a little lost at Rio Tinto like most clubs do.

WVH Prediction: Real Salt Lake 2, Columbus 1

Kansas City Wizards – at – San Jose Earthquakes

On one side you have a team that is up and coming and the other side a team that is on the downward slope. Could be interesting if you ask me. If each team is serious about their playoff chances they must get a result in this one, draws will not help them going forward. I just feel this one will end in a draw however as we still don’t know if KC has the offense to really get them into the playoffs yet while San Jose’s defense is beaten up a bit.

WVH Prediction: San Jose 1, Kansas City 1

Seattle Sounders FC – at – Chivas USA

Another hot team takes the road as the Sounders visit Chivas USA. Fredy Montero has been a man possessed lately and it shows as the Sounders went from dead in the water to a playoff contender in a matter of a month. Chivas will go for the possession in this one to slow down the Sounder attack. Look for it to be a back and forth contest because of that. Seattle has the tools to win on the road but I see a draw coming up in this one as Justin Braun gets a goal for the Goats.

WVH Prediction: Chivas 1, Seattle 1

Think LA comes in focussed and organized…LA 2 NY 0. Donovan scores both goals.
