- Designated Player, Freddie Ljungberg, Trades
According to a couple sites, the Seattle Sounders FC will be trading Designated Player and midfielder Freddie Ljungberg to the Chicago Fire. No word yet on what the Sounders will get in return for the Swedish midfielder, likely a boat load of allocation.
Most thought when reports surfaced that Ljungberg was heading out of Seattle that he would be going back to Europe and not stay in Major League Soccer. Now it appears not to be the case as he’ll head east to the Windy City.
For the Fire this is a big step up and in the right direction to get their season back on track. Nery Castillo made a ton of sense but adding Ljungberg to a midfield that already has someone like Marco Pappa only makes this club better.
World Soccer Reader is also reporting that Seattle will make an offer to Freddy Montero to become a DP.
Update: Seattle will receive a conditional selection in the 2011 or 2012 SuperDraft.
