Beasley’s MLS Options

Ah the World Cup, not only is it a great sporting event but for rumor lovers it brings weeks of speculation over players involved in it and where they’ll end up afterwards. A handfull or so of US players are in that mix this time around and one of those guys is DeMarcus Beasley.

DMB wants to stay in Europe now that his stay with Scotland’s Rangers is up. But don’t sleep on him coming home to Major League Soccer.

Judging by his quotes yesterday at the USMNT camp he really wants to stay in Europe.

“My first option is Europe,” Beasley said from US National Team training camp. “I’m open to a lot of different possibilities and opportunities for myself. Right now come July 1, I don’t have a club. So I’m looking for different opportunities. MLS could be one or it could not.”

“I had a great time, but Scotland is done,” Beasley said. “I’m looking forward to opening a new chapter in my book. Whether that’s in England, Spain, Greece or whatever. I would love to stay in Europe, it’s my first option … Any club that needs a left midfielder or a right midfielder, I’m available.”

But why not MLS? To me if he can get another contract in Europe then great but let’s be honest he hasn’t gotten the most playing time that he needs over there and a move back to MLS would help him out. He is only 27-years old so in some folks eyes the right move would be to stay in Europe to help his National team standing out. I argue a move back to MLS would do more though.

So let’s play the hypothetical game for a moment. If he does come back to the league he’ll obviously be placed in the lovely allocation system. Currently the teams in the running are San Jose, Kansas City, Toronto and Dallas. Maybe throw Chicago in there if they work out a deal with one of the clubs above.

(note: keep those four clubs listed above in mind in the coming weeks as they are the top allocation clubs right now.)

Its not known where he’d like to play IF he came back to the league. But it would be interesting to see him back in the league that gave him his start.

So where would you like to see Beasley if he came back to MLS? In Chicago or somewhere else?
