- 2010 World Cup, Bob Bradley, Edson Buddle, World Cup 2010
In one night we possibly saw a big swing in the US Men’s National team striker pool. On one hand we had Brian Ching who looked to be a possible player for Bob Bradley’s World Cup squad later this year go down to a hamstring injury that could keep him out for several weeks. On the other hand is red-hot LA Galaxy striker Edson Buddle who bagged this third goal of the season last night.
But the question now comes, is it too little too late for Buddle to be in the discussion for the national team? He’s got a hot hand (or foot if you will) now but he’s never really been in the national team picture. Injuries and streaky play have played apart of it. He’s only had one senior team cap in his professional career and that was all the way back in 2003.
If he continues his scoring streak here though you have to at least consider him given the lack of depth at striker that US has here. If he’s hot and playing with the confidence we’re seeing right now he could be just the guy the US needs up top.
Too bad there aren’t any more friendlies before the Send Off series in a few weeks or Buddle could be someone worth a look like former MLSer Herculez Gomez.
So what do you think? Too late to consider Buddle here or does a hot streak merit some attention?
